Trilliant Networks, a U.S.-based smart energy communications company, has committed to investing Rs 2,000 crore in Tamil Nadu to establish a development and global support center along with a production facility. The agreement was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in Chicago, in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who is on a two-week visit to the U.S. aimed at attracting investments to the state.
“Secured a ₹2000 crore MoU with Trilliant to establish a manufacturing unit as well as their Development & Global Support Centre in Tamil Nadu. Thanks to Trilliant for this valuable partnership!” the Chief Minister shared on his X handle following the MoU signing.
Trilliant Networks, headquartered in North Carolina, is a leader in advanced metering infrastructure, smart grid, smart cities, and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The company also provides energy efficiency solutions, renewable energy integration, and metering infrastructure. This investment will further solidify Tamil Nadu’s position as a hub for advanced technology.
During his visit, the Chief Minister also met with executives from global giants such as Nike and Optum. Talks with Nike revolved around expanding non-leather footwear production and the possibility of establishing a product creation and design center in Chennai. Discussions also touched on collaborating with the “Naan Mudhalvan” skill development initiative. In his post on X, CM Stalin said, “productive talks” with Nike were held regarding these expansion plans.
The Chief Minister also engaged with Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, which already employs 5,000 people in Tamil Nadu. He invited Optum to expand its operations into cities like Tiruchy and Madurai.
Throughout the U.S. visit, the Tamil Nadu government has signed MoUs worth Rs 3,500 crore, securing investments from major companies. The Rs 2,000 crore investment from Trilliant Networks will enhance Tamil Nadu’s leadership in smart grid technology, IIoT, and renewable energy integration. Additionally, collaborations with companies like Nike and Optum are set to boost employment opportunities, especially for youth and women, while promoting skill development through initiatives like “Naan Mudhalvan.”
Other MoUs signed during the visit include a Rs 400 crore investment by Ohmium to establish a factory in Kancheepuram, and a Rs 200 crore investment by Eaton to expand its Chennai facility and establish a research and development center. In total, agreements have been secured with 10 companies, promising to create thousands of jobs and reinforce Tamil Nadu’s position as an attractive destination for international investments.
