In a significant development for Andhra Pradesh’s IT sector, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced plans to establish a large IT facility in Visakhapatnam, capable of accommodating up to 10,000 employees. This decision followed a meeting held on Tuesday between Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Communications, and HRD, and Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, at the Tata Group headquarters in Mumbai.
The announcement marks a boost for Visakhapatnam, which is also attracting other major investments. Recently, HCL disclosed its plans to invest in the city, while companies like Lulu Group, Brookfield, Oberoi, and Suzlon Energy have shown interest in the state as well.
Minister Nara Lokesh expressed his enthusiasm for the Tata Group’s commitment, stating, “We are committed to offering a best-in-class investment climate to corporates driven by our motto of ‘speed of doing business’. This investment by TCS is an important milestone as we work to make AP as India’s No. 1 State to do business.”
Following the announcement, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu congratulated Lokesh for his efforts in securing the TCS project for Visakhapatnam. He also commended Lokesh’s ongoing initiatives to generate 20 lakh jobs across the state over the next five years.
