Earlier this year, Tata Technologies Ltd, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, experienced a ransomware attack that disrupted its network and led to the suspension of certain services. Now, according to a report by TechCrunch, a ransomware group known as Hunters International has allegedly released data stolen from the company.
TechCrunch claims to have reviewed the leaked information, which reportedly includes sensitive personal details of both current and former employees, along with confidential documents such as purchase orders and contracts with clients in India and the United States. The data dump is said to be approximately 1.4TB in size, comprising over 730,000 files, including Excel spreadsheets, PDFs, and PowerPoint presentations. However, it remains unclear whether this leak is directly linked to the recent cyberattack on Tata Technologies.
In a regulatory filing, Tata Technologies stated that an investigation is ongoing in collaboration with cybersecurity experts to determine the source of the breach and implement necessary corrective measures.
Hunters International is a relatively new ransomware-as-a-service group that provides its infrastructure to hackers in exchange for a share of ransom payments. The group is also linked to the Hive ransomware gang, which was previously responsible for leaking stolen data from Tata Power in 2022.
Established in 1989 as an automotive division of Tata Motors, Tata Technologies specializes in automotive design, aerospace engineering, and research and development. The company operates across 18 global locations and generates an annual revenue of $600 million.
