REA India, the parent company of real estate platforms Housing.com, PropTiger, and Makaan.com, and a subsidiary of Australia’s REA Group, has announced the appointment of Abhishek Makkar as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
According to a press release from Housing.com, Makkar will oversee the engineering and data science teams while joining the executive leadership of REA India. Based in Gurugram, he will report directly to Group CEO Dhruv Agarwala.
Bringing over 19 years of experience in technology, Makkar previously served at Expedia Group, where he led core e-commerce initiatives as Vice President of Technology. Prior to that, he worked at Amazon from 2012 to 2017, managing global engineering teams responsible for various retail experiences and alternative delivery channels.
Commenting on the appointment, Agarwala highlighted Makkar’s expertise in scaling technology operations and fostering a culture of innovation, aligning well with REA India’s strategic vision.
“The real estate industry is ripe for technological transformation, and both Housing.com and PropTiger are uniquely positioned to lead this change,” said Makkar.
“I look forward to working with the talented REA India team to build innovative solutions.”
Makkar’s appointment follows a series of technological advancements by Housing.com, including the October launch of short-form property video formats Housing Shorts and Housing Stories. In January, the company introduced real estate visualization tools leveraging generative AI (GenAI), augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR).
Additionally, REA India reported a 31% year-on-year revenue growth, reaching INR 5.6 billion ($64.6 million) for the fiscal year ending June 2024. The company also inaugurated its first global capability center (GCC) in India in September 2024 and recently elevated longtime CFO Vikas Wadhawan to the role of COO for the GCC.
