While OpenAI is no stranger to robotics, it has primarily focused on funding ventures like Figure, 1X, and Physical Intelligence, a company specializing in general-purpose AI.
In 2021, OpenAI closed its robotics division, putting such ambitions on hold. However, advancements in hardware and AI over the past three years may have reignited interest. Reviving its robotics efforts would require significant effort to compete in the rapidly evolving and highly competitive robotics sector.
