Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) is developing a version of its new flagship AI chips for the Chinese market that aligns with current U.S. export regulations, according to three sources familiar with the situation. In March, Nvidia introduced its “Blackwell” chip series, with the B200 model promising up to 30 times the speed of its predecessor for certain tasks, such as delivering responses from chatbots.
Nvidia is partnering with Inspur, a major distributor in China, to launch and distribute the chip, which is tentatively named the “B20,” the sources revealed.
In response to tightened U.S. export controls on advanced semiconductors to China in 2023—aimed at preventing advances in supercomputing that could benefit China’s military—Nvidia has developed three chips specifically for the Chinese market.
