Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the launch of a new Aadhaar mobile app via a post on X (formerly Twitter). Currently in its beta phase, the app is designed with AI and Face ID technology, removing the need to carry a physical Aadhaar card or provide photocopies for verification.
Available soon for both Android and iOS platforms, the app promises to put users in full control of their data. “With a single tap, users can now choose to share only the essential details, ensuring complete data privacy,” the minister wrote.
The updated app simplifies the Aadhaar verification process to the level of convenience seen in UPI payments. Users can verify their identity by scanning a QR code provided by the service provider and authenticating through facial recognition or fingerprint. The process is entirely digital and does not require physically handing over any Aadhaar documentation.
Designed for everyday use, the app can be used at hotels, retail stores, and during travel. The government has emphasized the security of the new system, stating that all personal data is shared only with the user’s explicit consent — making the app a fully digital and privacy-focused solution.
