Microsoft says 8.5 million devices affected by CrowdStrike-related outage

A global tech outage related to a software update by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike affected nearly 8.5 million Microsoft devices, Microsoft stated in a blog post on Saturday.

“We currently estimate that CrowdStrike’s update affected 8.5 million Windows devices, or less than one percent of all Windows machines,” the blog read.

Microsoft noted that CrowdStrike has assisted in developing a scalable solution to help Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure accelerate the fix. Additionally, Microsoft collaborated with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform to determine the most effective approaches.

The IT outage disrupted numerous industries, causing delays, flight cancellations, and check-in issues for air passengers worldwide, and impacting banks, media companies, and other sectors.
