Meta is making a significant push to expand its presence in India by setting up a new office in Bengaluru and actively recruiting engineers and product specialists for artificial intelligence (AI). This move aligns with the trend of global tech giants, including Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, strengthening their engineering and product teams in India’s tech hub.
According to a job listing on Meta’s official website, the company is in search of an engineering director tasked with establishing and leading a technical team in Bengaluru. This role is expected to be instrumental in shaping Meta’s long-term engineering footprint in the country. Additionally, posts shared by Meta employees on LinkedIn confirm that the Bengaluru office will be developed by the company’s enterprise engineering team, focusing on creating internal tools aimed at enhancing workplace productivity.
In addition to software roles, Meta is also hiring hardware engineers to bolster its AI infrastructure. This includes work related to data center operations and the development of custom chips, indicating that the company is looking to build deeper technological capabilities within India.
Since its entry into the Indian market in 2010, Meta has established offices in several key cities, including Gurugram, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. However, the majority of its existing workforce in India has been concentrated in functions such as sales, marketing, business development, operations, policy, legal, and finance. The company is now expanding beyond these traditional business roles to include technical talent, with a Meta spokesperson confirming that the company is hiring a “small number of engineering professionals in Bengaluru.”
India remains a crucial market for Meta, boasting over a billion users across its platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The company’s increased focus on AI and engineering in the region reflects the growing significance of India as a hub for innovation and technological advancements.
Meta’s expansion follows Google’s recent launch of a major campus in Bengaluru, named “Ananta.” This new facility houses teams from various divisions, including Google DeepMind, Android, Search, Pay, Cloud, Maps, and Play, further cementing Bengaluru’s status as a leading global technology hub.
