Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg discussed various topics, including his views on OpenAI’s leadership, the scrutiny faced by tech giants, and social media’s influence in the 2024 U.S. elections.
Regarding Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, Zuckerberg praised his achievements, saying, “He deserves a lot of credit for how that organization has developed.” Reflecting on his own experiences with public scrutiny, Zuckerberg added, “Having faced a lot of public scrutiny myself, I understand that handling it for the first time can be challenging. I think he’s managing it quite gracefully—better than I did.” However, Zuckerberg also pointed out what he sees as a paradox in OpenAI’s approach: “It’s somewhat ironic for an organization named OpenAI to be at the forefront of developing closed AI models. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s a bit funny.”
On the subject of Facebook’s role in elections and misinformation, Zuckerberg highlighted the company’s efforts to minimize political content and give users more control: “What I hear from people is that they want to see less political content on our platforms. They use our services to connect with people, so we’re working to recommend less political content. You’ll likely see our platforms have a smaller role in this election compared to previous ones.”
Zuckerberg also shared that he would not be endorsing any candidates in the upcoming election, stating, “I’ve done some personal endorsements in the past, but I’m not planning to do so this time. This includes not endorsing either of the candidates.”
