On Wednesday, Google introduced its largest campus in India, named Ananta, which translates to “infinite” or “limitless” in Sanskrit. Situated in Mahadevapura, Bengaluru, this facility ranks among Google’s largest campuses globally, with a seating capacity exceeding 5,000. Designed with accessibility as a priority, the campus is constructed using materials that are predominantly sourced locally.
“Ananta will be known not just for the innovations that emerge from within its walls—powered by India but for the world—but also for its lasting impact. Six years ago, we made a pivotal shift, embracing an AI-first approach. We recognised India’s potential not only as a deep talent pool but also as a place where AI can transform lives at scale. This new campus marks a milestone in the ongoing seismic shift in technology. It is a testament to our ambition to innovate and drive the next transformative leap in AI,” stated Preeti Lobana, vice president and country manager at Google India.
Incorporating sustainable initiatives to minimize its environmental impact, Google Ananta features water waste recycling, on-site rainwater harvesting, and smart photochromic glass that optimizes energy efficiency.
India’s ability to address complex challenges often leads to solutions with global relevance. Highlighting this, Anand Rangarajan, vice president of engineering at Google DeepMind and Bengaluru site lead, said, “Ananta, now one of Google’s largest offices worldwide, stands as proof of this belief in innovation and our commitment to building India’s digital future. It represents a milestone for all those contributing to shaping this future.”
Google envisions Ananta as a center for developing world-class products and tackling intricate user-centric challenges. The company, with a workforce exceeding 10,000 employees across cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Gurugram, follows a hybrid work structure, requiring employees to be in the office three days a week.
Moving beyond a conventional workspace, Ananta is designed to encourage collaboration and rejuvenation. The campus offers various amenities, including a fully equipped gym, daycare facilities, a cafeteria, and a mini forest named Aranya.
