Google Teases AI Video Generation and Agentic Tools for Gemini Advanced Users

Google has hinted at upcoming AI features for Gemini Advanced subscribers, including an AI-powered video generation tool and agentic tools. However, there is no confirmation on when these features will be available. Meanwhile, the tech giant has introduced the Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental and Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking AI models for paid users, while discontinuing the older 1.5 Pro and Flash models from its AI applications.

Gemini Advanced Users Receive Sneak Peek at New Features

As reported by 9to5Google, Google shared a newsletter with Gemini Advanced subscribers, previewing features that might roll out in the coming months. While no specific release date was provided, the company indicated that users could soon generate videos through Gemini.

In the newsletter, Google reportedly stated, “Explore new ways to create with leading video, image, and audio generation tools.” The Gemini app currently supports Imagen 3, the company’s latest image generation model, but does not yet include the Veo 2 video generation model. Google appears to be planning the addition of video creation capabilities along with inline editing for images. Additionally, audio generation might be introduced via its MusicLM platform.

The newsletter also referenced agentic tools that “can take action on your behalf.” This aligns with expectations for Google DeepMind’s Project Mariner, which is anticipated to launch this year. Project Mariner was initially introduced at Google I/O 2024, where Gemini was demonstrated handling multiple complex tasks across different applications with a single command.

Introduction of New AI Models for Gemini Advanced Users

Gemini Advanced subscribers now have access to the Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental and Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking models. The former is considered the most advanced in the 2.0 series, while the latter specializes in reasoning and includes a transparent chain-of-thought (CoT) mechanism.

Free-tier users of the Gemini app can still use the Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental model, recently made available, along with the “Thinking with apps” model, which supports reasoning-focused tasks across YouTube, Maps, and Google Search. However, with these updates, Google has phased out the 1.5 Pro and 1.5 Flash models, which are no longer accessible to Gemini users.
