Google is set to enhance Chrome with three innovative AI features powered by the latest Google AI and Gemini models, aiming to improve browsing speed, safety, and convenience. These updates will introduce visual searches via Google Lens on desktops, an efficient product comparison tool called Tab Compare, and an advanced, natural language-powered browsing history search.
Visual Search with Google Lens
Google Lens, which has been popular on mobile, will now be available on the desktop version of Chrome. This feature allows users to select, search, and inquire about any item they see on the web without switching tabs. Users can activate Google Lens by clicking the icon in the address bar or using the right-click or three-dot menu. Visual matches and results will appear in a side panel, enabling users to refine their searches by details like color or brand and ask follow-up questions to explore topics further. Depending on the query, an AI Overview response may provide the most relevant information from across the web.
Product Comparison with Tab Compare
To simplify online shopping, Chrome introduces Tab Compare. This tool will provide an AI-generated summary of products from multiple tabs, making it easier for users to compare key details such as specifications, features, prices, and ratings without having to switch between tabs. Initially available in the U.S. in the coming weeks, this feature aims to streamline the decision-making process. For example, users searching for a new Bluetooth portable speaker will receive a comparison table, helping them make informed decisions efficiently.
Rediscover Browsing History
Chrome’s new AI-enhanced browsing history feature is designed to make it easier to find previously visited sites through conversational queries. Users can search their history with phrases like “What was that ice cream shop I looked at last week?” to bring up relevant pages from their browsing history. This optional feature, also rolling out in the U.S. soon, can be toggled on or off in settings and will exclude data from incognito mode.
These new AI-driven features are part of Google’s effort to make the browsing experience more intuitive and helpful. The updates will be gradually introduced over the next few days and weeks, promising to enhance user interaction with Chrome and simplify the process of finding information and completing tasks online.
