Festive Season Boosts E-commerce Sales to Nearly Rs 1 Lakh Crore

Consumer interest in luxury brands significantly bolstered this year’s festive season sales on e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart, pushing total sales to nearly Rs 1 lakh crore, a 23% increase over last year. Amazon saw strong growth in premium categories such as large appliances, luxury fashion, fragrances, and accessories. The Big Billion Days by Flipkart and Amazon’s Great Indian Festival, which began in late September, generated about Rs 55,000 crore in their first week.

Participation from non-metro areas was notable, making up over 85% of Amazon’s customer base. High demand for smartphones, appliances, fashion, and electronics drove the sales surge. Datum Intelligence reported that while there was a temporary mid-season dip, momentum picked up towards the end. Sellers on platforms like Flipkart experienced strong year-on-year growth, underscoring the expanding influence of e-commerce in India’s retail market.
