Unilever has announced that Fernando Fernandez, the company’s current Chief Financial Officer, will take over as Chief Executive Officer starting March 1, 2025. Fernandez, who has led Unilever’s Latin America and beauty divisions, is recognized for his decisive leadership and ability to drive transformation.
He will succeed Hein Schumacher, who is stepping down after 20 months in the role. During Schumacher’s tenure, Unilever undertook key strategic changes, including streamlining operations, exiting the Russian market, and divesting its ice cream business. While these efforts resulted in notable performance improvements and a rise in the company’s share price, the board believes Fernandez’s leadership will further accelerate Unilever’s growth and transformation.
With increasing scrutiny and evolving market dynamics, Unilever aims to strengthen its position under Fernandez’s leadership, focusing on innovation, efficiency, and long-term shareholder value.
