CrowdStrike says over 97% of Windows sensors back online

CrowdStrike’s CEO, George Kurtz, announced on Thursday that over 97% of Windows sensors are now back online, nearly a week after a software update from the cybersecurity firm caused a global outage.

The outage was due to a fault in CrowdStrike’s Falcon platform sensor, a security agent installed on devices like laptops and desktops to protect them from threats. This fault caused computers running Microsoft’s Windows operating system to crash and display the notorious blue screen of death. Microsoft reported on Saturday that about 8.5 million Windows devices were affected by the outage, which resulted in grounded flights, disrupted broadcasts, and customers losing access to services such as healthcare and banking.

“Our recovery efforts have been enhanced thanks to the development of automatic recovery techniques and by mobilizing all our resources to support our customers.”
