Amazon India is set to relocate its corporate headquarters from the World Trade Centre (WTC) in northwest Bengaluru to a new location near the city’s airport as part of its strategy to reduce operational costs. The relocation, scheduled to begin in April 2025 and conclude by April 2026, is expected to slash rent expenses by nearly two-thirds.
Currently, Amazon occupies approximately 500,000 square feet across 18 floors of the 30-story WTC building, owned by Brigade Enterprises, at a rate of Rs 250 per square foot. The e-commerce giant’s new office, located on the city’s outskirts, will significantly lower its rental costs, saving the company an estimated Rs 4.15 crore annually.
However, the move raises concerns for Brigade Enterprises, which now faces the challenge of filling the soon-to-be vacant space. Additionally, the WTC building houses a substantial number of Amazon employees, with 25% of the apartments in the adjacent complex reportedly occupied by its workforce. The relocation may present logistical challenges for the 5,000 employees currently based at the site, many of whom live in close proximity to the WTC.
