Indian telecom giant Airtel is set to shut down its music streaming platform, Wynk Music, a decade after its launch. The company plans to close the app in the coming months, with all Wynk Music employees being absorbed into the broader Airtel ecosystem.
This decision follows Airtel’s recent partnership with Apple, which offers Airtel Xstream customers exclusive access to Apple TV+ and Apple Music. Launched in 2014, Wynk Music currently boasts over 100 million subscribers and contributes approximately Rs 300 crore annually to Airtel’s revenue. Despite its success, the strategic shift aligns with Airtel’s broader focus on digital products like Airtel Xstream and Airtel Ads.
In August 2022, Wynk Music introduced Wynk Studio, a platform for independent artists to distribute and monetize their music. Wynk Studio will remain part of Airtel’s digital portfolio.
