Adani Energy Solutions Secures ₹25,000 Crore HVDC Project, Expanding its Business Empire

Gautam Adani, India’s second-richest individual, has continued to expand his business empire with his company, Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), securing a significant project worth ₹25,000 crore. This achievement marks another milestone in Adani’s growing dominance in the energy sector, underscoring his ability to secure large-scale projects that contribute to both business growth and the advancement of energy infrastructure.

The project awarded to AESL is a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission project, which is set to transmit 6 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy from Rajasthan to the northern demand centers of India. This is Adani Energy’s largest transmission order to date, further solidifying its position as a leader in the energy sector. The Patla (Rajasthan) to Fatehpur (Uttar Pradesh) HVDC project, which spans approximately 2,400 kilometers, will involve the installation of a 6,000-MW HVDC system with 7,500 MVA of transmission capacity, a significant technical and operational undertaking.

This project is part of Adani Group’s ambitious push towards renewable energy, aligning with the Indian government’s focus on promoting clean energy sources. By facilitating the long-distance transmission of renewable energy, the project supports the broader objectives of India’s energy transition. With the increasing demand for renewable energy in the country, this project plays a crucial role in ensuring that energy can be efficiently transmitted to areas where it is most needed.

As of now, Adani Energy boasts a transmission network of 25,778 kilometers and a transformation capacity of 84,186 MVA. The company aims to complete this massive HVDC project within 4.5 years. The successful bid for the Patla-Fatehpur HVDC project was coordinated by REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd, with the project officially being transferred to Adani Energy on January 20, 2025.

With a market capitalization of ₹96,112 crore, Adani Group has now accumulated a total of ₹54,761 crore in orders across various energy projects. This recent addition strengthens the group’s portfolio, positioning AESL to capitalize on the growing need for long-distance power transmission, particularly in the renewable energy sector. AESL’s successful bid for the HVDC project reflects its expanding expertise in high-capacity transmission systems.

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) is currently the only private sector company in India with an HVDC asset dedicated to long-distance power transmission. This marks their third HVDC project, following the successful completion of previous projects such as Mundra-Mahendragarh and Arrey-Kudus, solidifying AESL’s leadership in the HVDC segment. The company’s ability to manage large-scale, technologically advanced energy projects positions it as a key player in India’s power transmission infrastructure, further enhancing its reputation and capabilities.

With the completion of the Patla-Fatehpur HVDC project, Adani Energy will further strengthen its position in India’s energy sector, driving the growth of renewable energy infrastructure and contributing to the country’s transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources. This project underscores the strategic expansion of Adani Group’s business interests and its commitment to shaping India’s energy future through innovative, high-capacity solutions.
