Google is expanding access to advanced features of its AI assistant, Gemini, across all supported Android smartphones. Previously limited to selected Pixel, Samsung, and Gemini Advanced users, the ability to share a screen or live video with Gemini is now being rolled out more broadly.
Gemini, which is gradually replacing Google Assistant on Android devices, operates on Google’s most powerful language models and supports multimodal interactions. This means it can interpret and respond to a combination of text, voice, images, and video.
The update leverages the Gemini 2.5 series, including Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 2.5 Flash, which are currently in an experimental stage. Google has also introduced “Deep Research” using the 2.5 Pro model, accessible to advanced users.
These new capabilities let users share real-time video or screen content with Gemini, allowing it to process and respond to what’s being shown. In addition, Google is offering its Gemini Advanced subscription—typically priced at $20 per month—at no cost to college students in the U.S. This plan includes access to the most recent language models and 2 TB of cloud storage.
