Nvidia has completed its purchase of Run:ai, an Israeli company specializing in AI hardware infrastructure optimization. Run:ai’s software, currently exclusive to Nvidia products, will now be open-sourced, allowing competitors like AMD and Intel to integrate it into their systems.
In a statement to Bloomberg, Run:ai expressed excitement about expanding its team and broadening its market presence, highlighting the benefits of open-sourcing the software for the wider AI ecosystem.
The acquisition, initially valued at $700 million, faced regulatory scrutiny from both the U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission. Concerns centered around potential impacts on market competition. Following a detailed review, the European Commission approved the deal in December.
Nvidia’s decision to open-source Run:ai’s technology signals its commitment to fostering innovation across the AI industry while reinforcing its position as a leading player in the field.
