OpenAI Partners with Anduril to Enhance U.S. Military Drone Defense

OpenAI is collaborating with Anduril, a defense startup, to integrate its AI technology into systems used by the U.S. military to counter drone threats. Anduril plans to use OpenAI’s models to enhance the speed and precision of identifying and tracking unmanned aerial vehicles, improving response time and reducing collateral damage. However, OpenAI’s technology will not be applied to Anduril’s other weapons systems.

This partnership is part of a broader trend of major tech companies engaging with the defense sector. OpenAI had previously restricted the use of its AI in warfare but revised its stance in January, leading to agreements with the Pentagon for cybersecurity initiatives and other defense-related projects. The company has also strengthened ties with defense experts, including former Department of Defense official Sasha Baker and NSA chief Paul Nakasone, who now serves on OpenAI’s board.
