India Mobile Congress 2024: Showcasing Innovation, Connectivity, and Global Cooperation

The India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024 commenced today, October 15, marking the eighth edition of this annual technology event. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the event also saw the launch of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2024, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a specialized agency of the United Nations. During his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized India’s leadership in digital innovation, stating, “India has democratised digital technology. In India, telecom is not just about connectivity but also about equity and opportunity. Ten years ago, when I had unveiled the vision of Digital India, I had said that we need to take a holistic approach. We had recognised four pillars of Digital India: lower prices of devices, make sure every corner of the country is digitally connected, make data accessible to everyone, make ‘digital first’ our goal.”

The prime minister also underscored the global relevance of this year’s IMC and WTSA, highlighting the themes of collaboration and connectivity. He remarked, “WTSA aims to empower the whole world through consensus. India Mobile Congress aims to empower the world through connectivity. So, consensus and connectivity have been linked at this event. In today’s conflict-ridden world, these two things are very important.”

The four-day event, running until October 18 at Pragati Maidan, features participation from leading industry players such as Xiaomi, Qualcomm, Reliance Jio, and Ericsson. Among the innovations on display are Meta Ray-Ban XR glasses, expected to be a highlight of the event. Notable attendees include Prime Minister Modi, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Akash Ambani of Reliance Jio, Sunil Bharti Mittal of Bharti Enterprises, and Kumar M. Birla.

IMC 2024 will place significant emphasis on 5G advancements, including practical AI applications and demonstrations of next-generation technologies. Xiaomi and Snapdragon are set to announce a partnership aimed at enhancing the performance of budget smartphones with Snapdragon’s latest chipsets. Qualcomm’s exhibits will focus on the transformative potential of on-device AI and expanding 5G accessibility throughout India, featuring demonstrations of their latest processors and Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses powered by the Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 chip, offering real-time AR experiences like navigation and text translation.
