Reliance Industries Ltd., India’s largest company by market capitalization, made significant announcements during its 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM), focusing on AI integration and tech advancements across its business sectors. Chairman Mukesh Ambani, addressing 3.5 million shareholders, emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding its AI capabilities, with AI mentioned nearly three dozen times within the two-hour event.
AI and Cloud Innovations Mukesh Ambani introduced the “Jio Brain,” a comprehensive AI suite designed to accelerate AI adoption across Reliance’s operations, including telecommunications, retail, and energy. The company plans to build large-scale, AI-ready data centers in Jamnagar, Gujarat, powered by green energy resources, which Ambani claimed would lower AI inferencing costs in India. As part of its AI initiatives, Jio users will receive up to 100 GB of free cloud storage through the Jio AI-Cloud Welcome Offer, launching around Diwali.
Jio Phonecall AI and Jio TvOS Akash Ambani unveiled Jio Phonecall AI, a groundbreaking service that integrates AI into phone calls, allowing users to record, store, transcribe, summarize, and translate conversations automatically. Additionally, Reliance introduced Jio TvOS, a home-grown operating system for Jio Set Top Boxes, offering features like Ultra HD 4K video, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos.
Smart Home Integration and JioTV+ Jio is also advancing its IoT solutions with Jio Home IoT, integrated with Jio TvOS, enabling seamless control of smart devices. The JioTV+ service was highlighted for its access to over 860 live TV channels in HD, integrating content from platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Hotstar.
AI Talent Development and Future Prospects In partnership with Jio Institute, Reliance is developing an AI program to cultivate talent in India. Despite the AI frenzy, the AGM did not provide updates on the anticipated IPOs for Jio and Reliance Retail. However, Ambani mentioned that both subsidiaries are expected to double their revenue and EBITDA in the next three to four years.
Expanding AI in India India, which has lagged behind in the global AI race, is witnessing increased activity from conglomerates like Reliance, which has partnered with Nvidia to push AI development. The company’s aggressive AI strategy, combined with its infrastructure plans, positions it as a key player in India’s AI landscape.
