UniCredit buys digital bank and cloud IT platform in Aion-Vodeno deal

On Wednesday, UniCredit announced a 370 million euro ($401 million) investment to acquire Belgium’s digital bank Aion and Vodeno, a provider of cloud-based banking services.

Vodeno, which operates its own cloud platform, will bring a team of 200 engineers, developers, and data scientists into UniCredit. The bank highlighted that this acquisition is one of the first instances of a financial institution securing full ownership of new technology, eliminating reliance on third-party core banking providers.
