The government has named Atul Kumar Chaudhary as the new Secretary of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), filling the vacancy left by V Raghunandan’s retirement on May 31.
Chaudhary, an IIT Roorkee graduate, also holds a Master Diploma in Public Policy & Administration from IIPA Delhi. He has extensive experience in roles across Personnel, HR, Administration, Licensing, and Vigilance within BSNL and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Previously, he served as Deputy Director General (DDG) at DoT and is currently DDG at the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Chaudhary, an Indian Telecom Service (ITS) officer from the 1989 batch, is on a two-year foreign service deputation.
Following Raghunandan’s retirement, officially noted at a TRAI event on May 15, Chaudhary will assume significant responsibilities in shaping telecom guidelines and policies, improving service quality, and addressing issues like unsolicited calls and new broadcasting policies.
