Munich Re appoints Surbhi Goel as the CEO of its India branch

Munich Re, a global provider specializing in reinsurance has announced the appointment of Surbhi Goel as the new CEO of its India branch, effective October, pending regulatory approval. Surbhi, who will be the first woman to lead Munich Re in India, is set to replace Hitesh Kotak. Kotak will advance to a broader role from July 1, overseeing operations in Japan, India, Korea, and Southeast Asia, and Surbhi will report directly to him.

Previously, Surbhi Goel managed the Property & Casualty Southeast Asia business for Munich Re since 2022, and before that, she held various senior roles in underwriting, business, and reinsurance at a leading Indian insurer beginning in 2008. In her upcoming role as CEO, she will helm Munich Re’s property and casualty reinsurance operations in India.


Hitesh Kotak commended her deep understanding of the Indian insurance market, highlighting her as an ideal leader for one of Munich Re’s key growth markets. Surbhi expressed enthusiasm about her new role, looking forward to driving growth in the Indian market for Munich Re
